July 23, 2012

Hope you're enjoying your afternoon.....  If it's hot where you are..I hope you're inside chillin' out......

We enjoyed having Jewell Scates and Ann Thrash join our regular group for lunch last week.  We certainly had a great visit and had a lot of laughs..... Have a look:

Sandy, Judy, Jackie, Judy, Brenda, Ann, Marilynn and Jewell.....

This week we're going someplace new, at least to us, because we've never had our lunch bunch there.  Pizza Hut at the corner of Lonnie Abbott and Mississippi.  They have a nice inside restaurant which is not crowded or noisy, at least from the one experience I've had.  So we're going to check it out.  Be there at 11:30....

The reunion continues to approach and will be here before we know it.  Are you ready?  Many of you have expressed names of those you would like to see there, but let's hear more.  Who knows...maybe word will reach them and it will make a difference.  Wouldn't that be wonderful....?

Ada Lunch Bunch October 25, 2010

Hey 50th Reunion Classmates,

Hope you're somewhere able to experience this beautiful fall weather. Hopefully, it will continue into next week and the reunion. It's a great time of year.

Well, let's see...where to start? First, check the list of attendees, www.reunioninformation.blogspot.com, there have been additions. Is your name there? If not, why not? Well, there's not many good reasons, now are there?

So far, we have 50 classmates, 19 spouses, and at least 6 upper-classmates set to have a great time at this once in a life-time reunion event. I've heard from others that they may be dropping in.

The Dallas Lunch Bunch had just a small group on the 21st, but after all, it's quality not quantity, right?. Check http://adahighdallaslunchbunch.blogspot.com, for pictures like the one below.... and get yourself over to Cantina Loredo on November 18.
P1010047.JPG

The Ada Lunch Bunch had a great time at Rib Crib. They almost put us in the commercial they were making because we were having such a good time. We had a visitor, Barbara Simpson McNutt, class of 59, from Norman. We love visitors and she was no exception. We had a lot of laughs.
P1010051.JPGJudy R, Sandy, Brenda, Judy H, Virginia, Barbara Simpson McNutt, Marilynn, Jackie

Come join us next week, Nov 1, at Mazzio's Pizza, 12:00. We'll have another great time, I promise.

October 18, 2010

Hope you're all doing well this Wednesday evening.

Please check the blog to see those classmates attending the reunion. There are updates..!!! www.reunioninformation.blogspot.com

If you haven't sent in your payments yet, as of this date, it is okay to just bring it with you. Please don't think you can't attend if you haven't sent it in ahead of time. You are welcome even if it is a last minute decision. Please don't miss this reunion for any reason. We have enough payments to cover our commitments...!!! And we want you there.......

Those who can't be there.... Please indicate if you would like to set up a video chat with your classmates. It is easy... We will set a definite time for you and you can visit with us all. Even if you don't have a camera, we can still talk..it's free...I'll help you set it up. Please let me know....

The Ada Lunch Bunch had a great, if noisy, time at the Santa Fe Cattle Company on Monday. We had a guest, LeDon McAnally. He was here for the funeral of "Doc" Brinkley. You will remember Doyle and Dilda Brinkley from the class of '59. Doyle and his family live in Greenville, Texas. Anyway, we were glad to have LeDon. We always enjoy his stories. We have great story tellers in the class of '60. (We want some good ones on Friday night at the reunion)

P1010046 - Copy.JPG'P1010045.JPGP1010046.JPG

Virginia, Judy, Jackie, Brenda, Judy, Marilynn, LeDon..... I hope these pictures come out okay...let me know if not. We will meet at the Rib Crib on Monday the 25th, 12:00. We'd love to have you join us. But be prepared..!! Once you get there, you won't want to leave. We don't.

Ada is wonderful...what can I say. It beats Dallas all to pieces, no traffic (no matter what the locals say). It's a great place to retire. We have it all.

Last week they had the ribbon cutting for the new ECU School of Business. This will be a big asset at ECU.

Let me hear from you with questions and comments.

September 13, 2010

Marilynn, Virginia, Brenda, Judy, (Judy Hanson had to leave early)

Hope all is well with you this fine week before fall begins. Days are cool and life is good.

Please add Virginia Carter Cathey to your email address list. virginiacc@cableone.net She will be joining us at the reunion as well. Welcome Virginia, you're a barrel of laughs.

Virginia joined the Ada Lunch Bunch this past Monday, driving in from Ardmore. We really enjoyed her company, too. And, I might add, she looks just like I remember her.

Next week, the 20th, we'll be at the Elk's Club for their lunch buffet, 12:00. Come join us for good times, current and past. We want to see you!!!.....

Check out the list of those who have committed to the reunion. www.reunioninformation.blogspot.com If your name is not there, you know what to do. Make plans to attend.... NOW!!!.......you'll regret it if you don't.

Those of you who are close to the Dallas area, don't forget the Dallas Lunch Bunch. Tomorrow, the 16th, Macaroni Grill on Beltline, 11:45. Be there...!!! You won't regret it.

August 26, 2010

Hi 50th Reunion Classmates,

Hope you're going to have a fabulous Labor Day Weekend. I want you to know, the weather in Oklahoma is just wonderful. It is Fall. You know, so often it seems we go directly from summer to winter. But, not this year. It is great. And great to be in Ada Oklahoma.

I'm taking a drive down to Broken Bow, Oklahoma, today, to meet some cousins. I'm driving through Idabel, where I was born. It's been some years since I've been there, as I have no family there anymore. It will be interesting.......

BTW, Jim Lehrer, in his book Crown Oklahoma, referred to Adabel. I found that he spent time in both Idabel and Ada, and just decided to combine the names. I guess he couldn't pick a favorite. I'm still offended.....

The Lunch Bunch kept things interesting for the folks at Mazzio's last week. (I think these restaurants must have learned our schedule..... oh well, it pays to be prepared. ). We were glad to see Louise Tyree Lau, and looking so good, too. She's been under the weather lately, but it on her way back to tip top health.
P1010004.JPG
Judy, Bill, Judy, Louise, Marilynn, Brenda and Sandy.

This week, even though it's Labor Day, we'll meet at the Elk's Club for lunch (Polo's is closed for the holiday). Be there at 12:00. I can promise you it will be fun.

If you haven't already, it's time to firm up your plans to attend the reunion. It's the once in a lifetime, 50th Reunion. Don't miss it......!!!! Think about all your friends who will be there. We want to see you...!!! For info click on www.reunioninformation.blogspot.com, (or type it into your browser). If you have trouble with that, email me and I'll make sure you get it.

Ada Lunch Bunch .. August 2, 2010

Hope all is well where you are and that it's cool...because it's hot in Oklahoma.....

Have you made 50th Reunion plans yet? Why don't you get started...after all, this happens only once every 50 years. It would seem a shame to miss it.....

Let's hear some encouragement from some who consistently attend. What's so good about it?

The Lunch Bunch was in good spirits when we went to the local Cattle Co last Monday. We had some high school pictures brought by Judy Ruble, a couple of which we could not identify for sure. Wish you'd been there to help.
P1010039 - Copy (2).JPG
Floyd and Ann Holman, Sandy and Bill Willis, Brenda , Judy, and Marilynn.
(ya'll can thank me for cleaning the table off, since our waiter didn't do it).

How about joining us next Monday, the 9th, at The Rib Crib, 12:00 noon. (how could you resist those smiling faces?) Bring yourself and bring a friend. (It's rumored that Fred Jumper will join us, so be ready for a great time).

We still have lots of room on the blog for all your pictures. Search them out, mail them to me if you don't have a scanner....I'll make sure you get them back.

If you need reunion information go to www.reunioninformation.blogspot.com.
If you'd like to see the picture album go to www.adahighcougarspicturealbum.blogspot.com. At the top of the page are links to all the other pages. If you haven't done so, look at them all. If you can't access the database, please let me know and I will fix it for you.

Ada Lunch Bunch .. July 26, 2010

What's going on in your neck of the woods? Hope you're having fun....!!!

Thanks to Sidney for sending more great pictures for the picture album. I know of some others that are searching for their picture boxes, too. We just can't wait to see what you find. Check it out.. www.adahighcougarspicturealbum.blogspot.com.

Just a reminder that the reunion plans have been finalized. You can find the information at www.reunioninformation.blogspot.com. We want to see YOU there.

The Ada Lunch Bunch had a great visit last Monday. It is so good to know you have some old friends you get to see on a regular basis. The stories we have in our memories, no one can relate to but us. They would be wasted but for the ears of old friends.

P1010037.JPG
Brenda, Sandy, Judy, Marilynn, Judy, Jewell and Jackie. It's always good to see you, Jewell.

Come join us next Monday, August 2 at 12:00. We're going to try the Santa Fe Cattle Company again. Be there to help us eat peanuts and throw shells on the floor. You won't regret it.

Judy Horne, Judy Hanson, Linda Smalley Andrews, Marilynn and Fred.

The Lunch Bunch enjoyed their BBQ this past Monday. We had a guests, too. Fred Jumper joined us as well as Linda Smalley Andrews. I can tell you, we had a great time. It was raining hard here on Monday so Fred decided we needed an umbrella for the picture. It was good to hear Fred and Linda exchange stories.

Ada Lunch Bunch... April 15, 2010

Seated: Judy and Judy

Hi Gang,
How are things in your neighborhood?  I hope they're going great.

The Ada Lunch Bunch had a bunch at lunch last week.  We were at the Blue Moon and I think we all enjoyed ourselves, even if it was a little loud.

As you can see we had a lot of visitors. Sidney came down from OKC, Holley and Gale joined us, and Doug and Sue Smith were in town.

And then we had another special friend come in the Blue Moon:

None other than Linda Carriger Starkey.  Boy, it was good to see her, she's so cute and fiesty. (I don't think either of us knew this picture was snapped.) Hope you'll join us again Linda.

And of course, all photos are courtesy of Sue and Doug.

We had such a wonderful visit.  Caught up on all the latest.  You know how that goes.

Next week we'll move just up the street to the Rib Crib.  Hope you'll join us at 12:00 on Monday, April 26.  You can catch up on the latest, too.

Sidney announced on Facebook that she has joined a band.  They are out of Shawnee and play at various events around the area.  Needless to say, she's the drummer.  We know you're going to be the best one they've ever had, Sidney.  I think her first "gig" was last Saturday.  Good for you, Sidney.  Can't think of a better way to stay young and vital.

Speaking of that...  I've added a new web page to the blog.  It's called AHS60 What We Do To Stay Young!  How about it ya'll.  Share some stories with everyone..pictures too.  What have you started after the age of 60...or even before?  This is your opportunity for patting yourself on the back (or let us do it for you.).  In honor of our 50th Reunion this fall, send something about new things you've added to your life.  You can add it to the page yourself or I'll do it for you.

Ben Sleigh sent some pictures that have been added to the picture album page.  2nd grade at Willard School.  You've got to see them.  They're so cute.  www.adahighcougars1960.blogspot.com then click on the picture album page.

BTW...Has the blog been opening for you quickly?  Have you had any trouble?  Please let me know.

Please add Linda Starkey to your address book:  lstarkey1@cox.net

Please take Jill Botkin off your list temporarily.  They are on vacation until the end of May. jillbotkin1@suddenlink.net.  If you are using my list, her address is removed.

It has been so good to see everyone the last couple of weeks.  There are no friends like old friends.  It's great to be a part of such a wonderful group.

Reunion Hugs,
Marilynn
(P.S. a sad note....Paula Landrith Taylor, class of 63, passed away last week.  She had been fighting cancer for some time.)

April 12, 2010

Judy, Jewell, Brenda, Judy Ruble, Ann, Floyd and Marilynn

Now, isn't that the smilingest group you've ever seen? We've all decided we can't wait for the reunion in November. Just want to see all our friends in one place at one time. Please make plans to be there. You'll have a great time, I promise.

Next week we'll go to the Blue Moon in North Hills Center. 12:00. Be there or be square. Bring a friend.

To all of you Dallas folks... My class is cancelled for tomorrow (only one person enrolled). I'm coming to Dallas to join you at Bucca De Beppo. Can't wait to see you. If you're in Dallas, you come join us too.

BTW, some have asked about donating to the class fund. Just in case we need money for the reunion, or something else important. You can send your checks to me, made out to me, 1315 N Oak #101, Ada 74820. We have a class account (but it was too complicated to put it in the class name). Instead, we have four names on the account. Judy Hanson, Ann Holman, Brenda Johnson and myself. But it is your account. We will use it only for class business, with your permission if it's a large amount. Accounting is available if requested.

Reunion Hugs,
Marilynn

Ada Lunch Bunch 11-16-09

Jewell, Jackie, Brenda, Sandy, Marilynn and Judy in front

Hi Gang,

Hope you're in fine shape this pre-Thanksgiving weekend. It's great weather in Ada today and should hold for the week. I haven't mentioned this in awhile, but how about taking some family pictures this week? Send them to us, we'd love to see your family and post the pictures on the blog.

Something a little unusual to note: LeDon pointed it out because I missed it in the paper. A young man (30) passed away here last week; services to be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Ada Bowling Center. Only in Ada, but that's why we love it, right?

We were glad to be joined by Jewell Scates for lunch last week. We always love to see Jewell; he usually has some interesting stories to tell. Sandy Willis, Bill's wife, came to join us as well. She loves to listen to us gab. We had a great group as you can see. (Because of the way I'm accessing aol now, I'm unable to copy the picture into the mail so it will have to be an attachment.)

By the way Jewell, it was a great picture and just the right size. Thank you for sending it. Look forward to seeing you whenever you're in town.

This week, tomorrow the 23rd, most of the ladies will be preparing for Thanksgiving or out of town. So we'll not get together for lunch as a group. But if you are in town and want to have lunch, let me know. I'm not cooking and won't be leaving town until Wednesday.

Lunch Bunch pictures will be posted on the blog www.adahighcougars1960.blogspot.com. Be sure you see all the pages; there are links listed on the upper right.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Ada Lunch Bunch 7-13-09

For those of you who haven't been able to keep up with the sum-sum-summertime memories, there is hope. I've created a new page for our blog site: http://www.classof60memories.blogspot.com/ You can view all of the memories written by our esteemed classmates in the order in which they were sent out. I think you will find they are a little easier to keep track of when they're all in one place. I've removed the "Most Exciting AHS Happenings" from the main page to the above mentioned page. There is a selection at the top, but the most recent are shown first. Have a look and give me your input.

Keep those sum-sum-summertime memories coming. Hasn't it been a great read? I'll add them to the blog as necessary.

The Ada Lunch Bunch continues to be a source for lots of visiting and laughing. This week we were joined by Marie Burns and Helen Parrish. We had a great time as usual and we were glad to have Marie in from Grove OK. It was good to see and visit with her. Helen likes to be our picture taker.

Next week we'll meet at Papa Gjorgjo's Downtown. Please join us, we'd love to see you.

Many Hugs,
Marilynn

Ada Lunch Bunch 7-6-09

We had an excellent time at lunch last week. We were joined by Linda Smalley. What a good visit we had. She promises to come back for the reunion. You did promise, didn't you Linda?

Monday, June 13, we will be at the new Rib Crib just across from Chili's. Please join us for good company and some good BBQ. 1:00 p.m.

Keep those memories coming.

Hugs,
Marilynn

Ada Lunch Bunch 6-8-09

Here in Ada, the Lunch Bunch met at Chili's. We were joined by Sandra Farnham Allen and it was so good to see her. It has been quite awhile, but she was tanned from all the fishing she and Glen do up on Lake Eufaula. Come join us any time Sandra. And we hope the rest of you out there will too. (I take pretty good pictures with my phone, others do not.)
Judy, Jackie, Sandra, Marilynn, Brenda

Stopped at Braum's on a recent trip to Sulphur and spotted Beth McCord Hill. She is well and doing great. We had some good laughs and learned her birthday was Saturday the 13th. She was headed to her daughter's house to celebrate. We hope to see her at the Ada Lunch Bunch soon.

As we were leaving Braum's, who should we meet coming in? Carol Ann Jobe Jones. She and Gary had taken some time off from their farm and cattle to get some ice cream. So we all went back in and had more laughs and fun. Did you know that Gary and Carol Ann have motorcycled all over and where they haven't been on the motorcycle they have been when they drove a truck commercially? They were both tanned and healthy. Must be this Oklahoma atmosphere.

Also note.....Ben Sleigh has been to see Bill Myrick recently and he was doing pretty well. Thanks Ben, for keeping us posted, you're a good classmate and friend.

How many of you remember Falls Creek, the Baptist summer camp? Did you know that it is the largest church encampment in the "world"? Ada is building a new "cabin" there too. Anyone remember the Ada Whitehouse? That's what we used to call the cabin back in our time. Have a look now:
The North end.

The front right.

The front left. (you can't see they had to carve out the side of the mountain to make room.)

Truly something to make you proud. It is going to be the largest building down there other than the tabernacle.

Okay Guys and Gals.....that's about it for today. Remember the blog is open now. All you have to do is go to this address http://www.adahighcougars1960.blogspot.com/. Click on the links directly to the right and you will be able to view all the pages except the database. If you need an address from that, just let me know. If you have any problem please let me know. I will be glad to walk you through it.

Great Big Hugs to All,
Marilynn

March 16, 2009

Hey Gang.......this is our first step....a video of part of our lunch bunch meeting on March 16. Judy had to leave before we did it. Jewell Scates joined us for lunch and brought the neatest compact camcorder. He recorded Jackie and myself; that is his voice you hear in the background. He was able to download it to youtube.com and that is what you are viewing above. Way to go Jewell. He is also gearing up to be able to do live video chat via webcam. It's feasible any of you who get a webcam set up will be able to join us for lunch. Won't that be great?

January 2009

We haven't been taking many pictures lately. No doubt we'll do it again soon. Anyway, this picture was sometime in January when we were at Eduardo's Mexican Restaurant. Interesting wall decor there, isn't it? Hope to see any and all of you whenever you're in town.

December 8, 2008

It is 75 degrees in Ada this afternoon, the cold front is a little late. But the weather man says it will be here. Oh well, it's December.

I hope everything is going well for each of you and your families, and that you're planning a happy Christmas.

The Lunch Bunch met at Polo's last week. It's always good to see everyone, but we missed Brenda. She was taking care of a sick grandchild.

We'll meet at the Elk's Club tomorrow, Monday the 15th, at 1:00 p.m. Wish you would join us.

Please remember to send a family picture for the blog. The ones we have so far are wonderful.

Gale and Holley, Jackie, Ann, Judy, and Marilynn
The Ada Lunch Bunch met at Applebee's last Monday. We had a great visit and were joined by Holley and Gale Izard. Isn't it great to get together with old friends?

Monday, the 24th, we will try the newest restaurant in Ada....Sante Fe Cattle Company. I have it on good authority (Ann Walker) that the chicken fried steaks are as big as dinner plates. Not that the Lunch Bunch will partake of that fare. We'll let you know how the salads are. Join us there at 1:00 p.m.

Ada Lunch Bunch 10-6-08

Judy, George, Marilynn, Ann, Floyd, Mary Ellen and Jackie
Hi Everyone,

Are you getting excited about the reunion? I sure am. I'm hoping to see a lot of you there. It's going to be fun. And don't you hope the weather stays as great as it is? Of course, this is Oklahoma, so who knows what it will be like.

The Ada Lunch Bunch had a great time visiting Monday, in spite of the rain. It kept George Hanson from playing golf and Floyd Holman from working, so they joined us along with their wives. Papa's Pizzeria was closed so we wound up at the Blue Moon. Picture is above.

We'll meet next Monday at 1:00 at the Elk's Club. I hope you'll join us. The more the merrier.

September 22 Lunch Bunch

Helen, Mary Ellen, Marilynn and Ann
We had a great time visiting on Monday, we always do. Seems there's so much to talk about, even after all these years. That's what makes it so nice, we have a lot to catch up on.
I visited with Carole Jo Holmes Blassingame this afternoon. Her mom turned 95 today (at least today was the party). I remember Mrs Holmes (now Duncan) from Washington school and I'm sure some of you do too. She still looks wonderful and seemed to know me, even with a different hair color. Carole Jo is looking good, too. She's wrapped up with her grandkids and with playing piano and organ for the church, something she really loves to do.

Also visited with Ann White Truscott Friday night. She was in Ada attending a china painting seminar. Ann, Mary Ellen, Helen, and I had a great time laughing and visiting.

We'll meet at Doc's BBQ on Monday the 29th, at 1:00. Please join us if you can.

September 15 Lunch Bunch

Mary Ellen, Marilynn, Brenda, Ann and Judy
We found that lunch at Scott's BBQ was not the best, but we enjoyed the company, so that made it very worthwhile.

Recent Lunch Bunch Meeting

Mary Ellen, Marilynn, Brenda, Judy and Ann

We had a wonderful lunch. It was so good to have Ann Walker Holman join us. We missed Jackie as she was preparing to go on a trail ride. Helen was with us, but she took the picture. Come join us whenever you are in Ada.

Ada Lunch Bunch

Pictured are Jewell Scates, Judy Hanson, Jackie Walker and Marilynn Blackmon

It was a rainy day in Ada but that didn't keep us from having a fun lunch, as you can see in the picture. We had such a good time visiting. We missed Helen, Mary Ellen and Brenda, and hope they will be joining us next week.

We'll meet at Chili's on Monday, August 25, at 11:45. Hope you won't mind coming a little early, since it's always crowded at Chili's.

Does anybody remember the "Coffee Pot", a restaurant on Main St. in the 50's?
Let us know..........
